How it All Begain

From an early age I was always interested in winter sports. I would constantly watch the Winter Olympics hoping to catch a glimpse of the next upcoming stars. Particularly, I enjoyed the figure skating segment of the show. Who was going to win the gold medal this year? Which athlete is going to take the cover spot on the box of "Wheaties"? Who am I going to model my life after and dream to be? Thousands of questions swirled in my mind and the answers to them were so close to being revealed.

At eight your patience is pretty short. So, I would hover around the glow of the TV screen anticipating the final scores. My dreams were consumed with figure skating and I couldn't get it out of my head. Everywhere I went I pictured a frozen flat surface that I could train on and practice the acrobatic moves I saw on TV. I was enamored with the glitter and sparkle that the athletes seemed to shower on the ice from their handmade elegant costumes. With each pass on the ice, I began to see myself in them. I began to watch movies wrapped in the theme of figure skating. I felt like a junkie looking for his next fix. Everything looked like sparkles and ice. I wanted to skate!
